The designs for our stunning new stadium, Eco Park, have been drawn up by Zaha Hadid Architects, one of the world’s leading architectural practices.
In addition to science and technology centres, museums, theatres and airports, Zaha Hadid has pedigree in the world of sports. The company has created plans for several globally recognised elite sporting venues. These include the London Aquatics Centre used for the 2012 Olympics, the Al Janoub Stadium set to feature during the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Japan’s New National Stadium and the International Football Centre planned for Xi’an, China.
You can find out more about the architects and their plans for Eco Park on the company’s website.
Our new home will be the world’s first modern stadium to be built out of wood. It will be constructed using low-carbon methods with nearly every element made from sustainably sourced timber – the structure, roof cantilevers, louvered cladding… the lot! Even the floor slabs and seating terraces, normally made from concrete or steel, will be timber.
The transparent roof membrane will ensure our pitch can grow in natural sunlight, and there won’t be any stark shadows for fans or players to deal with. This will help it blend into the Cotswold landscape for a more natural aesthetic when viewed from afar.
One of the most amazing architectural feats Zaha Hadid has pulled off is the stadium’s expandability. It will start off with seating for 5,000 fans in phase 1. When the club grows, a planned phase 2 will enable the addition of another 5,000 seats without major construction works.
The architects at Zaha Hadid have put a lot of thought into what it will be like to watch a match at Eco Park. Front row seats will be 5m from the pitch, and every seat in the stadium will provide unrestricted views of the action. Eco Park is set to be the ultimate spectator bowl, and you’ll never be like that pillar guy at Goodison Park.
