The Opposition: Derby County (A)

All you need to know about Saturday's opponents

December 15th 2022FGR Media

Rovers make their first ever trip to Pride Park on Saturday, looking to make it three straight League One victories as they take on Derby County.

The Rams - who were relegated from the Championship last season - are currently seventh in the League One table. Here's everything you need to know about Saturday's opponents.

IN THE DUGOUT: PAUL WARNE

The 49-year-old was appointed as Rams boss in September, taking over from Interim Head Coach Liam Rosenior.

Warne doesn't need any introduction to League One followers; he's won promotion from the division as a manager three times, all with previous club Rotherham United.

In his 11 League One games in charge of Derby, he's won four, drawn five and lost two.

ONE TO WATCH: EIRAN CASHIN

The 21-year-old has received plenty of plaudits for his performances in the Derby defence so far this season. Cashin only made his professional debut last December and he's come on leaps and bounds since then.

He has played 19 of the Rams' 20 League One games so far this season, with Warne's side boasting the second defensive record in the division.

Eiran Cashin

Comfortable in possession of the ball, Cashin has been capped four times by Republic of Ireland Under-21s.

LAST TIME WE MET

We've only played Derby once before, which was in our first ever FA Cup third round appearance in 2009.

A record crowd of 4,836 packed in to The New Lawn to watch a classic, as Rovers - then in the Conference - gave the Championship side a scare.

Rovers took the lead through a stunning strike from Jonathan Smith, before Alex Lawless put FGR into dreamland after 20 minutes.

Quick-fire goals from Rob Hulse and Martin Albrechtsen pegged Rovers back before the half-time interval, but Paul Stonehouse restored Forest Green's lead 18 minutes from time.

However, it wasn't to be for Rovers, with Paul Green levelling the tie again, before Steven Davies won the game for the Rams after Darren Jones gave away a late penalty, which saw him given his marching orders.
