The Opposition: Burton Albion (H)

The lowdown on the Brewers ahead of our festive fixture

December 28th 2022James Williams

Rovers are back at The Bolt New Lawn for some more festive football as we host Burton Albion on Thursday evening.

Here’s all you need to know about the Brewers ahead of our last fixture of 2022 - a memorable year at FGR.

IN THE DUGOUT: DINO MAAMRIA

Maamria took over at the Pirelli Stadium back in September following the departure of former boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. The former Tunisian youth international had a long playing career in England both in and out of the Football League.

The 48-year-old gained coaching experience with the likes of Stevenage and Oldham Athletic before he joined Burton as an assistant in January 2021.

Alongside Hasselbaink, Maamria had an impressive start to his time at the club but after a slow start to this season, the former Premier League striker left. Maamria has since come in and helped the close edge closer to safety.

ONE TO WATCH: VICTOR ADEBOYEJO

Vic Adeboyejo

Brewers frontman Adeboyejo joined the club back in the summer from Barnsley after the Tykes’ relegation back to League One.

The 24-year-old played his youth football with the likes of Arsenal, AFC Wimbledon and Charlton Athletic before settling with fellow London club Leyton Orient.

The striker had a host of loans in Non-League during his time with the O’s before he made the switch to join Barnsley. He made just shy of 100 appearances in Yorkshire alongside brief loan spells with Bristol Rovers and Cambridge United.

Adeboyejo has had a prolific season with the Midlands outfit so far and has been involved in over a third of the sides league goals.

Paragraph Break

LAST TIME OUT

Burton earned a valuable three points on Boxing Day as they comfortably beat Lincoln City 3-0 at the Pirelli Stadium.

It took the hosts just five minutes to take the lead when defender Sam Hughes headed home from a Thomas Hamer cross.

The Brewers had a second 10 minutes later when Jonny Smith scored a superb solo goal cutting in from the right before finding the far top corner.

The game was all but wrapped up after just 27 minutes when Adeboyejo blasted home from the spot after Hughes was brought down in the box.

The win was Burton’s first three points since late October, when they defeated Cheltenham by a goal to nil.
