Robson on enjoying life under Cotterill

Defender impressed with new gaffer

Despite only having two sessions on the grass with their new gaffer before Saturday's game against Accrington, Jamie Robson says the Rovers squad are enjoying life under Steve Cotterill.

The experienced former Notts County, Bristol City and Shrewsbury Town boss was appointed as Forest Green's new manager last Thursday - with Rovers putting in a positive display in his first game despite a narrow 1-0 defeat.

A penalty from Jack Nolan proved the difference between the sides, with Rovers creating a number of opportunities, while limiting the visitors to very little.

“Everybody gave their all, it certainly wasn’t for the want of trying," said Robson. "It was just one of those games that got away from us. We were a bit hard done by and I feel we should have got the three points."

“They were never really in our box and Luke [Daniels] hasn’t really had a save to make, and if he has then it’s been from distance. The reaction after we conceded the penalty was really good, so that’s a positive to take."

The 59-year-old hasn't had much time to stamp down his style on his new players, but a full week of training will allow Cotterill the opportunity to get some detailed work in at Stanley Park.

The new boss' first away game is an important one, away at Colchester United this Saturday, who sit two places above Rovers in the League Two table. Robson believes a win in Essex could be the catalyst for a run of positive results.

"It’s been really good so far," said the Scotsman. "It’s only been a couple of days, but it’s been a fantastic couple of days. The boys have worked really hard and we've now got a full week of work to come, so the gaffer will be able to get his ideas across a bit more.

Applauding the fans

"He’s a great manager and has been in the game for a long time.

“Every game is massive now. We still believe. If we win at Colchester then it can kick start a run and we can start climbing this league table."
