Forest Green Rovers Women secured a 2-1 victory in a top-of-the-table clash against Bristol Rovers at The New Lawn.
Forest Green headed into the game on a high with a 5-2 win away from home against Sherborne Town last weekend. Bristol Rovers however went into this on top of the table with three wins from three.
Bristol Rovers opened the first half with a chance, as a pass from Abigail Hughes found Laura Curnock inside the box, but the shot was straight at Katie Thatcher.
10 minutes in, Alisha Lowry attempted to put Forest Green ahead with an open goal, but the ball went just wide of the target.
Just five minutes later, Forest Green made it 1-0 as a shot from Rhian Robbins rebounded and found Tori Taylor in the penalty area - and she slid the ball past Charlotte Cousins.
At the half hour mark, The Gas Girls almost equalised with Scarlett Mills taking a powerful strike just inside the box, but Thatcher tipped the ball over the goal.
Just a few minutes into the second half, Georgia-Marie Barbour-Gresham made it 2-0 with a stunning strike, as her 40 yard free-kick went straight at the keeper who struggled to keep hold of the ball.
In the 49th minute, The Gas Girls pegged one back after a deep free-kick from Libby Bell found the top right corner of the home side's net.
Ten minutes later, Bristol Rovers had another great chance that left Mills one-on-one with Thatcher, however it seemed to be offside. Nevertheless, her strike saw the ball collide with the post.
In the 87th minute, Bell crossed the ball finding Curnock’s head in a dangerous position inside the box but the effort went wide of the net.
With Forest Green holding out the last few remaining minutes, they picked up a huge three points, which puts them level on points with Bristol Rovers at the top of the table.
