Forest Green Rovers fell to a 2-1 defeat at Accrington Stanley, as Josh Andrews' double proved enough to condemn Rovers to defeat.
Rovers, who switched to a three-at-the-back system following Tuesday night's defeat at Stockport, started the game with energy and intensity, without creating any real openings.
Sean Robertson, who made his first league start of the season, had Rovers' first chance. The wing-back took a snapshot from the edge of the box, with his deflected shot eventually ending up in the grateful hands of Jon McCracken.
However, in the 18th minute, against the run of play, Stanley took the lead as Andrews headed home from Jack Nolan's ball into the box.
Andrews could have doubled Accrington's lead shortly after as he nodded a ball from the left onto the top of James Belshaw's net.
Belshaw was forced into his first save of the game just before the half hour mark, diving to his left to keep out Shaun Whalley's whipped effort.
Kyle McAllister almost had Rovers level before the break when he met Charlie McCann’s cross at the back post but saw his header parried away by McCracken.
Rovers needed to find another gear in the second period, so David Horseman made a double change introducing Fankaty Dabo and Jacob Maddox to the game.
This change almost paid off within the first minute of the second period when McAllister fed through Matty Taylor who saw a low effort blocked by the feet of McCracken.
However, it was Andrews who had the best impact, doubling Accrington’s lead on 51 minutes bundling the ball over the line from a wide free kick.
Horseman threw one last roll of the dice, hoping to salvage a result, by bringing on Callum Morton and Matty Stevens for some extra fire power.
A roll that somewhat worked as Stevens grabbed a goal back for Rovers on 84 minutes, heading a Dabo cross past McCracken from close range.
But it wasn’t enough to prevent Rovers sixth straight defeat who will be hoping to end this rut on Tuesday when we travel to Walsall in the EFL Trophy.
