Opposition in focus | Aldershot Town (H)

All you need to know Saturday's visitors

December 20th 2024FGR Media

For one last time in 2024 Forest Green Rovers walk out at The New Lawn with Aldershot Town the visitors for our National League clash.

We met with the Shots right back on the opening day of season, in much warmer conditions, for a six-goal thriller at the EBB Stadium.

Ryan Inniss, Kyle McAllister and Christian Doidge overturned a 2-0 deficit before a late James Henry goal saw the game end 3-3 back in August.

Ahead of final home game this calendar year, here is everything Rovers fans needed to know about the Shots.

OPPOSITION - ALDERSHOT TOWN

Since that meeting, the Shots have had their struggles throughout the season which sees them currently occupy 17th in the league just two points above the drop zone.

One win in their last eight league games highlights their misfortunes but they have come agonisingly close to a few victories as of late.

The Shots are heading into this clash off the back of a narrow 2-1 defeat to Solihull Moors and a chaotic 4-3 defeat to FC Halifax Town.

IN THE DUGOUT- HUGO LANGTON (STAND-IN)

Tom Widdrington has been absent from the sidelines since the end of November after suddenly falling ill and everyone at Forest Green wishes him well in his recovery hoping to see him back in the dugout soon.

In Widdrington’s absence, assistant manager Hugo Langton has been carrying Town forward and helped lead the side through in the FA Trophy with a 3-1 win over Wealdstone.

Langton joined the Shots in 2023 and became assistant manager to Widdrington alongside Richard Dryden, having worked with Widdrington at previous clubs in the past such as, Eastbourne Borough.

PLAYER TO WATCH - JAMES HENRY

Aldershot haven’t struggled for goals however being the top scorers in the bottom half with 31 goals in the league.

Midfielder James Henry may be a player to look out for with the 35-year-old finding the net on nine occassions this season.
