Forest Green Rovers Women Head Coach, Tom Needham, says winning the Gloucestershire FA Trophy is a fitting way to end the season.

Rovers won the final against Pucklechurch in a highly-dramatic affair, coming from behind twice to win the game 3-2. Nynka Rucker scored two goals in the last five minutes to give FGR the trophy down at the GFA Headquarters in Almondsbury.

"I'm really pleased," said Needham. "It's a great way to end the season after just missing out on promotion, so I'm really proud of the players because they deserve it.

"A lot of credit needs to go to Pucklechurch - they played really well and made it really difficult for us. We controlled the game well, kept possession well, which we took advantage of towards the end because I think they were tiring."

Rovers had been behind for much of the final in Almondsbury, but they showed their character by getting over the line. Rucker, who has been a standout performer this season, demonstrated her electric pace with two almost identical goals scoring in the dying embers.

Needham said: "Nynka had that bit of energy left at the end and she's been amazing all season.

"She's top scorer for a reason. We've given her a lot of work to do in the last few weeks by playing her at wing-back, but she showed what she can do when she has a bit of freedom. Her getting the winning goal is a very fitting way to finish the season.

"We always finish matches strongly, so we knew even at 2-1 down that we had a great chance of winning the game. I always felt confident even when behind in the match. It shows the character of the players, who all worked really hard for each other. I'm really proud of them."
