Forest Green Rovers made it back-to back pre-season victories defeating Royal Wootton Bassett Town 2-0 at the Sustain Stadium.
After returning from a pre-season camp in Germany, Steve Cotterill named another strong starting XI to take our Hellenic League Premier opponents.
The first 45 minutes saw little goalmouth action for either side until Rovers took the lead on 43 minutes through Jamie Robson who drilled low at the near post from close range.
Rovers came out for the second half with an intent to build on their lead starting when Christian Doidge saw a headed effort smartly saved by the Bassett goalkeeper on 52 minutes.
Bassett’s ‘keeper denied Rovers again on 65 minutes first stopping Kyle McAllister’s driven volley before reacting well to Ben Tozer’s thunderous effort.
Shortly after Rovers came inches from doubling their lead when Ryan Inniss’ towering header struck the underside of the bar and away from goal.
And Doidge did momentarily have Rovers further ahead on 69 minutes heading home at the back post, but his celebrations were cut short by the offside flag.
McAllister finished proceedings by drifting into the area and finding the bottom corner from 18-yards with a fiercely-struck effort.
Rovers pre-season preparations continue on Wednesday July 31st when we take a short trip to our neighbours Shortwood United at the Meadowbank Stadium.
