Forest Green Rovers fell to their first defeat in eight games narrowly losing 1-0 to Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park on Tuesday night.

Steve Cotterill named three changes from his side that defeated Gateshead on Saturday which saw Joe Quigley handed his first start for the club, alongside a return to line-up for Teddy Jenks and Emmanuel Osadebe.

The Latics started the quickest scoring the only goal of the game on nine minutes through a fantastic, volleyed effort from Mike Fondop.

Rovers almost had the perfect response three minutes later when Jenks rifled a distanced effort off the post before Tom Knowles saw a driven effort well stopped by the Latics goalkeeper minutes later.

Cotterill’s side grew stronger into the half and had another great opportunity through Kyle McAllister who tested the ‘keeper with a drilled effort before seeing his follow up dribble wide on 22 minutes.

The best chances of the second period came from Rovers with the Latics unable to test Jed Ward, first coming through Jamie Robson who curled an effort from the edge of the area inches wide on 53 minutes.

Robson almost turned provider on 61 minutes when his inviting cross found Liam Sercombe who could only guide his effort past the post.

Rovers threw everything at the Latics late in the game but some superb defensive work from the hosts saw Rovers’ seven game unbeaten come to end.

Cotterill and his side will be looking to get back to winning ways on Saturday when we return home to The New Lawn welcoming Hartlepool United for our National League fixture.
