Forest Green Rovers moved to the top of the National League after a convincing 2-0 victory over previous League leaders York City at The New Lawn.
Second half goals from Harvey Bunker and Kyle McAllister proved to be the difference in a game that was played in front of the DAZN TV cameras in the late 5:30 PM kick off.
The result sees Steve Cotterill’s side move to the summit of the league table, with visitors York dropping to second.
In a first half limited in goalmouth action; the best chance came in the third minute for the away side.
Striker Dipo Akinyemi broke in behind the Rovers defence and his strike was well saved by Jed Ward in goal.
Rovers responded with an attacking move of their own with Tom Knowles releasing Jamie Robson but the full back’s cross was cut out well by The Minstermen.
The opening period was being played at the intensity you would expect of a top of the table clash but both sides were struggling to create anything clear cut.
The first big opportunity of the match came immediately after the restart for the home side.
Adam May switched the ball out to winger Knowles whose pass found striker Joe Quigley inside the York penalty area but his effort struck the post and the ball was eventually cleared.
Rovers had the ball in the back of the net after captain Jordan Moore-Taylor turned home a Charlie McCann cross but the midfielder was judged to be offside.
The Rovers dominance would eventually be rewarded just after the hour mark.
A poor kick out by York keeper Harrison Male fell to winger Kyle McAllister on the edge of the box.
The Scotsman then showed great composure to lay the ball off to midfielder Harvey Bunker who emphatically fired the ball home and gave the home side a deserved lead.
Rovers almost doubled their lead soon after when McCann broke beyond the last defender, countering from a York corner.
The 22-year-old would unselfishly find the on-rushing McAllister who found the bottom corner but the winger had strayed into an offside position and the goal was disallowed.
The home side sealed victory in the 83rd minute with a swift attacking move.
The involved McCann drove forwards and once again found the dangerous McAllister who this time managed to time his run to perfection and via the post, found the bottom corner.
Rovers would see the remaining minutes out in a professional manor and maintain their unbeaten record at home in the league.
Steve Cotterill and his side are back on the road next weekend as they travel to Southend United, hoping to remain at the top of the National League.
