Match Report | Forest Green 2-0 Chorley

Rovers progress in FA Trophy

Match Highlights
January 4th 2025Sam Yapp

Joe Quigley’s second half brace saw Forest Green advance in the FA Trophy with a 2-0 win over Chorley at The New Lawn.

Steve Cotterill made four changes from Saturday’s late win over Yeovil Town as Harry Cardwell, Ben Tozer, Harvey Bunker and Quigley were all handed starts.

Rovers had the better chances of the first half and started the hunt for a goal early with Emmanuel Osadebe being denied inside five minutes before Quigley was denied low by Magpies’ goalkeeper, Matt Urwin, moments later.

The Magpies ‘keeper was in the way again on 10 minutes this time denying Cardwell who saw his low effort at the near post well saved.

Cardwell then saw a header denied by the crossbar on 32 minutes before Quigley met a whipped Cardwell cross on 41 minutes, but his glancing header came back off the post.

Rovers came out swinging in the second half and broke the deadlock on 55 minutes as Quigley turned home a low Cardwell cross for his first Rovers goal.

And it didn’t take long for Quigley to bag his second goal of the afternoon when he swept home an Osadebe pulled back cross into the bottom corner to secure passage into the fifth round.

The Magpies almost got themselves back in the contest when Dubem Eze latched onto a loose ball in the Rovers area but saw his low effort brilliantly blocked on the line by Jamie Robson on 78 minutes.

Rovers are back in National League action on Wednesday night when we welcome Dagenham & Redbridge to The New Lawn.
