Jordon Garrick’s first Forest Green Rovers goal since his return earned Rovers a point during a 1-1 draw with Woking at The New Lawn.
Steve Cotterill made two changes from his side that drew in Kent on Tuesday seeing Joe Quigley replace Christian Doidge whilst Luke McCormick was handed his first league start for Rovers.
Rovers manufactured the first opportunity on 13 minutes when Ryan Inniss met a driven Adam May corner but could only head his effort past the post.
Two minutes later, Kyle McAllister picked out Quigley inside the area, but his volleyed effort was well saved by Will Jaaskelainen in the Cards’ goal.
Straight down the other end, Fabian Mrozek was called into action denying Harry Beautyman with a superb double save from point-blank range.
The Cards went close again on 30 minutes when Beautyman picked up a loose pass before playing through Junior Morias, but he fired his effort over the bar.
The Cards’ spell of pressure continued on 39 minutes when Adam Chicksen cut inside off the left before striking a tame effort straight at Mrozek, seeing the first 45 end goalless.
Rovers started the second period on top with Charlie McCann seeing an effort fly just wide from distance after the Cards’ failed to clear a Rovers corner on 50 minutes.
The visitors grew into the second period and went close on 58 minutes when Lewis Walker dragged his effort across the face of the goal.
Woking opened the scoring on 69 minutes when Beautyman bundled an effort over the line following a scramble in Rovers’ six-yard box.
Rovers instantly responded on 72 minutes when Kyle McAllister’s drive was parried into the path of Garrick who fired home from close range to square the game back up.
That goal got Rovers ticking and who went close to taking the lead on 78 minutes when May drove an effort from distance, but Jaaskelainen was there to beat it away.
Woking finished the game with 10-men as second half substitute, Tariq Hinds, was shown a second yellow card for time wasting.
Garrick almost won it for Rovers in the seventh minute of added time when he met an inviting cross, but his header glanced the outside of the post, seeing the game end all square.
Rovers are back in action next Saturday when we welcome Maidenhead United to The New Lawn for our National League clash.
