Forest Green Rovers were held to a 1-1 draw against FC Halifax Town at The New Lawn on Wednesday but remained unbeaten in nine National League games. 

Steve Cotterill named a double change from the side that drew at Southend United on Saturday seeing Ryan Inniss and Christian Doidge replace Harry Cardwell and Ben Tozer. 

It was a quiet first 45 minutes that didn’t see the first testing effort until half an hour in when Harvey Bunker struck low from 18-yards but Sam Johnson in the Shaymen goal got down well to deny the midfielder. 

Moments later, Charlie McCann whipped a dangerous free-kick towards goal, but it whistled just past the post with the game heading into the break goalless. 

Rovers started the second period the stronger and almost took the lead on 56 minutes when Doidge met a deep Tom Knowles cross, but his header could only find the side netting. 

Rovers early second half pressure did pay off on 63 minutes when Kyle McAllister broke the deadlock sweeping home a low Knowles cross for his sixth goal of the season. 

The Shaymen grew into the second half late on and forced Jed Ward into a smart stop at his near post following a Billy Waters’ strike on 72 minutes, keeping Rovers ahead.  

Doidge came close to doubling Rovers’ lead on 82 minutes meeting a dangerous Jamie Robson cross but his header back across goal was superbly denied by Johnson. 

But the Shaymen stole a point three minutes from time when a low Andrew Oluwabori strike unfortunately squirmed underneath Ward. 

Rovers are next in action on Saturday December 7th when we travel to Braintree Town for our FA Trophy third round tie.
