Harvey Bunker’s sixth goal of the season helped extend Forest Green Rovers league unbeaten streak to 10 games beating Boston United 1-0 at The New Lawn.
Steve Cotterill made just one change from his side that advanced in the FA Trophy last Saturday seeing Christian Doidge coming in to replace Harry Cardwell.
It was Doidge who had the first clear cut chance of the game on 21 minutes when he latched onto a long ball, controlling it superbly but saw his effort well smothered by Aidan Stone in the Pilgrims’ goal.
Four minutes later, Bunker saw a deflected effort well tipped round the post by stone.
Bunker was on hand to try his luck again on 31 minutes when he followed up a cleared Kyle McAllister cross but his strike from 18 yards was tipped over by Stone.
Six minutes later, Bunker broke the deadlock with a stretching finish getting onto the end of a Doidge header back across goal for his fourth goal in six games.
Rovers were quick out the blocks again in the second period and Bunker tried for his second of the game on the hour mark but could head over a Sean Long cross.
The Pilgrims started to grow late into the game and on 70 minutes worked the ball into the area well finding Jai Rowe, but Tom Knowles was quick to throw his body in the way to block the effort.
And the visitors did have the ball in the back of the net on 81 minutes, but Adam Marriott’s diving header was ruled out for offside before he rattled the post from distance seven minutes later.
Rovers will look to carry that winning momentum into a double game week starting with Wolves U21s on Wednesday night in the National League Cup before we host Aldershot Town on Saturday in the Vanarama National League.
