Forest Green defeat at Doncaster

Donny score two second half goals for all three points

March 24th 2024Sam Yapp

Forest Green Rovers suffered a 2-0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers on the sides first ever trip to the Eco-Power Stadium on Saturday.

Steve Cotterill made two changes to his Rovers side that were beaten last Saturday as Alex Gorrin and Richard Keogh returned from injury.

The first-half saw little action but the better of the opportunities fell to Doncaster who tested goalkeeper Vicente Reyes on a couple of occasions.

Reyes was first called into action on 11 minutes when he got down well to deny a Luke Molyneux drive from the edge of the area.

Doncaster continued to test their luck from distance when Hakeeb Adelakun saw a 20-yard attempt gathered well by Reyes.

The hosts failed to beat Rovers’ Chilean shot stopper again on 27 minutes, this time from close range as Joe Ironside saw his headed attempt stopped by Reyes.

Rovers started the second period on a positive note but Doncaster’s attacking threat never disappeared as on 62 minutes, Molyneux broke the deadlock finding the top corner from close range.

Cotterill turned to his bench shortly after where he handed a long-awaited return to Jordon Garrick, making his first appearance since the final day of last season.

Rovers had their best chance of the game ten minutes from time when, after a scramble in the box, Christian Doidge fired an effort just wide of the post.

But Doncaster sealed all three points on 86 minutes when an under-pressure Keogh turned a low cross into his own net.

Rovers return to The New Lawn for some Good Friday action as we welcome Stockport County for our League Two clash.

Starting XI: Reyes (GK), Inniss, Keogh, Moore-Taylor © (Dabo 74’), Thompson, Robson, Bunker (Brown 73’), Gorrin (Jones 45’), Osadebe (Garrick 74’), McAllister, Doidge
