Forest Green Rovers extended their unbeaten run in the league to 18 on Tuesday night as they defeated Dagenham and Redbridge 2-0 at The Chigwell Construction Stadium.
Goals from Kyle McAllister and Charlie McCann proved to be the difference on the night for Steve Cotterill’s side.
The result sees Rovers move up to second in the National League table and close the gap to Barnet to four points, with a further game in hand on the current league leaders.
Rovers started the game on the front foot with Kyle McAllister finding Tom Knowles with a superb switch of play, with the latter firing over the crossbar.
The away side created another opportunity shortly after when McCann found Jamie Robson but his effort went just past the post.
Their early dominance would be rewarded on the 22nd minute when McAllister cut inside onto his left foot and his long-range strike found the bottom corner.
Rovers’ lead was nearly doubled shortly after when Knowles found the arriving McCann in the penalty area but he could not direct his effort on target.
The Daggers created their first opening just after the hour mark when Shiloh Remy forced a good save out of debutant keeper Fabian Mrozek.
Cotterill’s men grabbed their second goal of the night just under 20 minutes from time through the involved McCann.
Knowles released McAllister in behind the Dagenham backline and the influential midfielder to fire past Elliot Justham in the home side’s net.
Rovers almost added a third in injury time when substitute Jordan Garrick’s strike was tipped onto the post by Justham and the following up Luke McCormick was ruled offside.
The away side saw out the remaining minutes in a professional manor and recorded their eleventh clean sheet in their league campaign.
Rovers will look to make it back to back wins on Saturday afternoon as they host Eastleigh at The New Lawn.
