Before Saturday’s fixture at The New Lawn, Forest Green Rovers Women have the small matter of a County Cup semi-final as they take on Cheltenham Town at Kayte Lane on Thursday night.
Rovers come into the match off the back of a defeat to Marine Academy Plymouth last Sunday and will be looking to put that behind us against a strong Cheltenham side.
The Robinesses sit 9th in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division, only one point above the relegation zone.
It is the first edition of the GFA Women’s Senior Cup, and the winner of this tie will face either Bristol Rovers or Bristol City Academy U21 in the final.
You have to go all the way back to 2017 for the last time that the two sides met in a competitive fixture. On that day, it was Cheltenham who ran out 1-0 winners at Whaddon Road courtesy of a goal from Ella Hitchcox. Current Head of Women’s Football at FGR Louise Fensome lined up for Cheltenham that day in the GFA County Cup.
