Today’s involvement against Braintree Town sees Liam Sercombe play his 700th career match in what has been an excellent career so far.

Sercombe’s first professional appearance came back on August 11th, 2007, when he made his debut for Exeter City during a 4-1 victory over Altrincham in the Blue Square Premier.

He was introduced into the game on 11 minutes replacing an injured Andrew Taylor to play his first 79 minutes of professional football.

Sercombe went on to play 263 times for Exeter, scoring 23 goals before departing St. James Park for Oxford United in 2015.

The midfielder made 101 appearance for Oxford in which he helped the side to back-to-back EFL Trophy finals in 2016 and 2017, however suffered defeat on both occassions.

22 goals during his two-year stay at Oxford earned Sercombe a move back to the Southwest with Bristol Rovers in 2017.

Sercombe made 123 appearances for the Gas finding the net 19 times alongside 17 assists during three year stay in Bristol.

2020 saw Sercombe make the switch to Cheltenham Town where he enjoyed his first taste of silverware and a career scoring high.

Sercombe netted 27 goals in 185 appearances for the Robins and was a part of the side, along with Ben Tozer and Sean Long, who lifted the 2020/21 League Two title.

After four memorable years at the Robins, Sercombe joined Steve Cotterill’s Rovers side in 2024, re-uniting with former Robins team mates Long and Tozer.

Following his appearance against Braintree, Sercombe has made 27 appearances across all competitions, finding the net five times.
