The latest FGR addition, David Davis, started his footballing journey not far from his home of Smethwick, spending time with Walsall before being picked up by Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Davis went on to sign a first professional contract with Wolves aged 18 but would have to gain experience before making his mark at Molineux.
His first taste of first team football came with Darlington before a loan spell in the following 2010/11 season saw a return to the Midlands and a return to the Saddlers.
The midfielder spent the second half of the campaign with Shrewsbury Town, where he scored his first senior goals, as the club narrowly missed out on promotion to League One.
Davis was then awarded his Wolves debut in the League Cup aged 20 before two further loan spells to Scottish outfit Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Chesterfield.
He was recalled toward the end of the season and made his Premier League debut under then manager Terry Connor as Wolves were relegated back to the Championship.
Davis would sign a new three-year deal but was in and out of the side under a variety of managers in the coming years during a further relegation to League One before promotion back to the Championship.
After six years in the Black Country, Davis made the 12-mile switch to join Birmingham City where he eventually spent an even longer portion of his career.
Davis was a regular starter under managers such as Gary Rowett and Gianfranco Zola during his time at St Andrews.
He was a key player for Blues and was awarded the Fans’ and Club Player of the Season award in 2017 after scoring four goals from centre midfield.
After a few injury problems, a short loan spell with Charlton Athletic and the COVID-19 pandemic, he was released by Birmingham after nearly seven years at the club making just shy of 200 appearances.
Next for the midfielder was a return to Shropshire, re-signing for Shrewsbury until the end of the season, a decade after his original loan spell.
Davis would go on to make 21 appearances in the second half of the 2020/21 season and ended the campaign by playing the full 90 minutes in 11 of the last 12 games.
Last season saw Davis become an integral part of the Shrews midfield as he was ever present through the first half of the campaign.
He scored his third goal for the club and only goal of his second spell in a home victory over Cheltenham Town, running from his own half before coolly netting the winner.
But Davis’ season and time with Shrewsbury was agonizingly cut short after sustaining ankle ligament damage against Portsmouth at the end of February.
Davis, now 31, joins Rovers as Ian Burchnall’s fifth signing and will be relishing the chance to play League One football once again, as FGR embark on a first season ever in the third tier.
