After a summer of change, Forest Green Rovers Women are delighted to announce the appointment of David Hennessy as Chairman, and Chris Hicks as Head Coach, following their formal appointment at the club’s AGM in July.
UEFA B Licenced coach Hicks' comes to the Nailsworth club with plenty of prior experience in the women's game, spending a season with Cirencester Town Ladies in the County League before a two-year spell at Cheltenham Town Ladies in the FA Women's Premier League.
He currently has a role within the FA as an FA Mentor, supporting coaches through the FA coaching pathway levels and helping clubs throughout Gloucestershire and Bristol.
"From the first training session and through the friendlies, team spirits have been high,” said Hicks.
“The players have shown a real desire to improve as individuals and as a team. They’re a young squad and, I'm sure with the right positive encouragement, they will keep progressing over the upcoming season and beyond."
“It’s all about starting to lay solid foundations of who we are as a team to help with cohesion and improvement in subsequent seasons. We like to get the ball down, play through the thirds and be comfortable in possession all over the pitch."
Rovers kick-started the season with a resounding away victory, running out 3-1 winners at AEK Boco Ladies yesterday afternoon.
Sian Towler, Ash Watson and Holly Thomas were amongst the goals, as their South West Regional Women's Football League season got off to the perfect start.
