Forest Green Rovers announce new academy scheme

July 23rd 2020Noah Dougherty

Forest Green Rovers has confirmed it will launch a new scheme for Under 7 girls and boys when the new season begins.

This is the first step towards building a girl’s academy with the club strengthening its already successful boy’s developmental system, with a brand new mixed programme for U7 girls and boys launching later this year, as COVID-19 restrictions lift.

The new mixed footballing set up will offer all children identical opportunities – access to coaching, training and games – and will be further developed with the use of our planned Eco Park stadium and facilities when available.    FGR’s new programme will develop and nurture the county’s best young footballing talent – building into a more comprehensive women’s set up over coming seasons.    Hannah Dingley, Head of Academy, FGR, said   “We’ve wanted to develop a high-quality female football programme at FGR, so I’m pleased we are taking our first steps to build one from the ground up. The new under 7 age group will be just the start. We will hold trials as soon as it’s safe to do so.”

Dale Vince, Chairman, Forest Green Rovers, added:    “We’ve been looking at options to develop women’s football since Hannah joined us – we want to build and develop the next generation of female players and work on creating an academy.”
