FGR tick all the boxes for Kane Wilson

August 4th 2020Ash Loveridge

Meticulous attention to detail ticked all the boxes for new Forest Green defender Kane Wilson.

Head Coach Mark Cooper and Director of Football Richard Hughes made it a no-brainer for the Birmingham-born 20 year-old defender, who joined Forest Green last month on a two-year deal from Premier League newcomers West Bromwich Albion.

“The Gaffer (Mark Cooper) and Rich Hughes (Director of Football) sold the club to me in an unbelievable way,” admitted Kane. “I was sent clips of the way they like to play and having played against them during my loan spells with Exeter City and Tranmere Rovers, I knew the way they dominated the ball and the style suits me down to the ground.”

Blowing the cobwebs of inactivity away, the all-action wing-back is champing at the bit to make his mark at the New Lawn as the football world adapts to a new normal.

Paragraph Break

“It has been a surreal four months without football, but now we have got back into contact football this week - it has felt a bit more normal,” said Kane. “The season will be upon us soon, so we have to start cracking down and getting ready for September. The Club match my ambition and we all want to do something really special this season.”

Rovers fans can expect some surging runs from the effervescent newcomer, he added: “I’m hardworking, you can guarantee that. I like to get 1v1 and take people on and get at people, but I like defending the same way and I hope I can add a few more goals and assists to my game and kick on with FGR.”

Moving to Tetbury, Kane is putting his roots down in Gloucestershire and is looking forward to meeting Chairman Dale Vince.

He said: “I’ve not met the Chairman yet, but I’ve googled him, and he seems like a good guy and I can’t wait to meet him.”
