Forest Green Rovers has today announced its first signing of the summer, bringing central midfielder Dan Sweeney to the club on a two-year deal.
Sweeney joins FGR on a free transfer from Barnet. The 26-year-old former AFC Wimbledon player joined Barnet in January 2017 and made 100 appearances for the club. He was voted Barnet’s Player of the Season in 2017/18 and has also played for England C.
On joining Forest Green Rovers, Dan Sweeney said: “I’m excited about being given the chance to prove myself in the Football League again and working with the manager and the team. I’m looking forward to getting started, just as soon as we get the green light for the new season.”
Richard Hughes, Director of Football, Forest Green Rovers, added: “There was considerable interest in Dan this summer, so we’re delighted to bring him to The New Lawn. He’s a strong, powerful and athletic player, who we know will fit right in with our squad.”
He was voted Barnet’s Player of the Season in 2017/18 and has also played for England C.
