The weekend of the May 11th and 12th saw Forest Green host back-to-back tournaments on the main pitch in what was a fantastic weekend of football.
On Saturday, our annual Business Sixes tournament kicked off with a group stage format followed by a 'Shield' and 'Plate' competitions for those who qualified to the next round.
On Sunday, our annual youth tournament that featured 40 teams from ages U8-U11 with four winners in the different age categories by the end of the day.
Our Business Sixes kicked off at 11am with the sun beaming down on The New Lawn turf.
Seven groups of four made up the group stage format with both winners, runners-up and the two best-placed third teams qualifying for the post-lunchtime knockouts.
The Shield was contested by the winners out each group plus the best-placed second team.
The Plate was made up of six runners-up and the two best-placed third teams.
SHIELD WINNER: Ecosia
SHIELD RUNNERS-UP: GR Fasteners
Ecosia took home the trophy after a fantastic tournament saw them undefeated. They did have to overcome Wheatley Printers on penalties in the semi-finals but they came through that scare to win in the final.
PLATE WINNER: Omega
PLATE RUNNERS-UP: EESI
Omega conceded only two goals reaching the final and overcame EESI in the final who themselves had a great tournament.
We thank all teams who took part to make it a fun, competitive and enjoyable day out.
On Sunday, we rounded off the weekend with a successful youth tournament that saw all participants play on the main FGR pitch.
The group stage format that comprised of 10 teams in two groups saw the top two in each group go through to the semi-finals.
There was a separate competition for each age group.
U8 WINNER: Tuffley Rovers U8
U8 RUNNERS-UP: Abbeymead Bears U8
After both sides performed exceptionally in the group stages, both then won their semi-finals with clean sheets too.
Tuffley ran out winners 2-1 in a tightly-contested final.
U9 WINNER: Tuffley Rovers U9
U9 RUNNERS-UP: Hucclecote Ravens U9
After coming through a tough semi-final against Bidford winning on penalties, Tuffley Rovers won 2-1 in the final.
U10 WINNERS: Westbury Youth U10
U10 RUNNERS-UP: Abbeymead Rovers U10
Both teams had to come through the semi-finals through penalty shoot-outs but it was Westbury who took home the prize with a 1-0 victory in the final.
U11 WINNERS: Westbury Youth U11
U11 RUNNERS-UP: Rodborough Youth U11
Westbury made it an U10's and U11's double with a 1-0 win in the final having come through a tough semi-final and group stage.
