Beach clean event this week

May 17th 2022FGR Media

We're teaming up with Sea Shepherd UK and Quorn to celebrate our successful season and show why we are much more than just a football club.

Join us for an afternoon by the sea for a guided beach clean with Sea Shepherd UK and the chance to take part in some ocean challenges and conversations, exploring stories from the deep and how to protect the ocean. Plus, some beach football, of course!

Our partner Quorn will be fuelling us throughout the afternoon with “scampi” and chips and not-dogs. You’ll need it as groups will be rotated through beach clean duty, beach volleyball and various other ocean themed games.

Everyone is welcome, bring the whole family - except dogs who sadly aren’t allowed on the beach. The beach is accessible by wheelchair and there are facilities and a café on site should the weather take a turn.

Please wear appropriate clothing for British Springtime… waterproof shoes, layers, and a waterproof jacket. It is England, so sunglasses and sun cream is also advised. Bring gloves and a litter picker if you have one, otherwise we will have equipment for you but please request this on the Eventbrite page (see below).  We advocate car sharing where possible. Or if you want to travel by train, FGR will be running a minibus shuttle service between Highbridge + Burnham station and the beach. Please check times and register for this service on the Eventbrite page.

We’ll provide a full briefing before we kick off, so please aim to arrive by 1.30pm, so we can begin promptly. Activities will start at 2.00pm, with several of the FGR team and Sea Shepherd UK crew available to meet and greet you from 1:30pm onwards.

Time: 1.30pm to 5pm

Date: Saturday 21st May 2022

Meet: The Marine Rescue Centre, The Esplanade, Burnham on Sea, TA8 1BB (look out for our flags and feather!).

What to bring. Your refill water bottle and reusable coffee cup. Beach cleaning equipment will be provided. If you have your own (litter pickers and gloves), please let us know when prompted by the booking page on Eventbrite.

Register.

If you’d like to join us, please book through the Eventbrite page, here  - so we know how many people to expect and cater for, to avoid waste and ensure we have enough litter pick equipment.

This event is completely free. Please note anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Sadly, dogs are not allowed on the beach.

We hope you can join us and look forward to seeing you there!
