A vegan's guide to: Bristol

Described as ‘the greenest football club in the world’, sustainability is central to everything we do at Forest Green Rovers, which is why we became a vegan football club In 2015.

Rovers begin their 2022/23 League One campaign this Saturday afternoon making the short trip South to face Bristol Rovers.

If you are heading to the Mem on the weekend here’s a vegan’s guide to the city of Bristol including food and drink options and even places to stay.

FOOD

Purezza-Bristol

Opening Time: 12:00PM

Looking for a pizza either before or after Saturday’s game? Purezza, coined ‘the UK’s first vegan pizzeria’ have got you covered. Located around a 20 minute walk down Gloucester Road from the Mem, Purezza boasts a range of vegan nibbles and sides including their staple sourdough pizza as well as their other ‘tasty mains’. So if you can, get on down to the award winning establishment.

The Nectar House

169a Gloucester Road, Bristol BS7 8BE

Opening Time: 8:00AM

A spot that accommodates for all, The Nectar House is yet another place to eat not too far from the Mem. With an aim to raise awareness about the importance of pollinators, the café/restaurant offers breakfast choices for the early risers with a further range of snacks and coffees throughout the day.

Atomic Burger

189 Gloucester Road, Bristol BS7 8BG

Opening Time: 12:00PM – 2:30PM

Situated around the corner from the home of Gloucestershire cricket, Atomic Burger Bristol has a great range of vegan food to offer. From burgers and hot dogs to nachos and fries, you’ve got a sit down restaurant supplying some tasty pre-match food. Simply continue on down Gloucester Road and you’ll find a great place to eat before kick-off.

Oowee-Vegan-Bristol

Opening Time: 11:30AM

The popular vegan fast food chain is a great place to get some lunch or dinner. With a mission to revolutionise fast food, Oowee mainly provides plant based burgers alongside a range of different fires and sides. Should want to get a bite to eat in the city centre, Oowee Vegan is great fast option for you vegan Rovers.

Future Doughnuts

26 Oxford Street, St Phillips, Bristol BS2 0QT

Opening Time: 11:00AM

If you’re heading to the centre of the city for a busy morning before our season opener, Future Doughnuts could be somewhere you want to stop at. Located around the corner from Bristol Temple Meads station the all vegan doughnut and coffee shop provides a nice range of doughnuts for that lunchtime sweet treat.

At the very start of Gloucester Road you’ll find the Future Leap Café, a business networking company that supplies eco-friendly food and drinks out of the café part of their building. Despite being place best for a coffee whilst working or discussing business, drop in to grab a hot drink and learn about their goal to increase sustainability.

The Good Measure

Opening Time: 12:00PM

With a range of beers at The Good Measure including permanent beers from The Good Chemistry Brewing team, the bar/pub provides unfined and hazy beers suitable for all, including vegans. Not far from the bottom of Gloucester Road, you’ll be able to drink both cask and keg brews in a nice community setting.

The Green Melon

A small family business that’s aim is to provide greener shopping, The Green Melon provides fruit, veg and other eco-friendly essentials. By selling plastic free products, The Green Melon are doing their part to help the earth. Located a couple of streets over from Gloucester Road, if you’ve got the time defiantly consider paying them a visit.

Artichoke Wholefoods

725 Fishponds Road, Bristol BS16 3UW

Opening Time: 9:00AM

Quite a way from the Mem, this is one for those driving to Saturdays game as Artichoke Wholefoods is somewhere you could stop on your way into Bristol. The store source ‘local and ethical products’ to reduce their impact on the environment. They often sell loose products so have your containers at the ready to restock your household food.

STAYS

The Base Vegan Retreat and Animal Sanctuary

Hollyguest Road, Hanham, Bristol BS15 9NW

If you are making a long weekend of our League One opener and need somewhere to stay look no further than The Base Vegan Retreat. Located on the outskirts of Bristol away from all the hustle and bustle you’ll find your destination. Run by a vegan couple, the retreat has a no animal derived product policy and really has the environment at the forefront.
