Rovers bounced back and picked up all three points against Colchester United at the innocent New Lawn.
Head Coach Mark Cooper made five changes from the frustrating midweek defeat to Southend United - with Kane Wilson, Dom Bernard, Aaron Collins, Jamille Matt and Scott Wagstaff all entering the starting line-up.
As the winter sun set on the innocent New Lawn, Rovers began to show their class with an opening chance to take the lead. Jamille Matt won the ball off Tommy Smith, before he charged into the area and found Odin Bailey - only for the Birmingham loanee to fire into the side netting from close range.
The home side stormed into the lead courtesy of lead marksman Matt. A pin-point cross into the area from Welshman Collins allowed the 31-year-old to get in front of the defender - and nod his effort beyond Colchester stopper Dean Gerken.
Five minutes later and Rovers doubled their advantage - and it was the Rovers captain for the evening Matt who also added to his tally. After an attempt was clawed off the line by Gerken, the FGR forward was on had to bury the ball into the back of the net.
Cooper's charges were reduced to ten men shortly before the interval after Ebou Adams collided with a U's man in the middle of the park. After some confusion between the officials, referee Carl Brook gave the red card to the Rovers man, forcing a handful of changes at the break.
FGR shaped up well for the second-half - and after dominating the majority of it's opening stages, the home side soon had a three goal cushion. A corner was lofted into the area - and Godwin-Malife was on hand to nod beyond substitute goalkeeper Shamal George.
