Carlisle United
Feeney O.G 16', Stevens 52', Matt 77'

Jamille Matt and Matty Stevens were amongst the goals as Rovers extended their unbeaten run to 14 league games with a 3-0 win over Carlisle United at the Fully Charged New Lawn.

A first half own goal, and second half strikes by Stevens and Matt ensured the three points for Rob Edwards’ side as they move seven points clear at the summit of League Two.

FGR took the lead a third of the way through the first half when a brilliant cross by Nicky Cadden was turned into the back of his own net by Morgan Feeney.

Stevens celebrated signing a new contract by scoring Rovers’ second goal early in the second half, slotting home from close range after Jake Young’s drive into the box.

Captain Matt netted his 16th league goal of the season with a calm finish into the bottom right-hand corner in the 77th minute to seal the victory for the hosts.

FGR could have scored more and Cadden came close to scoring in the 35th minute after Jake Young broke well and spread the ball to the Scot, but his shot was saved well by Mark Howard.

Young, who deserved a goal for his performance, saw a long-distance effort saved by Howard after some fancy footwork opened some space for the youngster.

Stevens came close to scoring his second in the 69th minute, but his header from a Kane Wilson cross went just over the bar from close range.

The visitors also had their chances with Tyrese Omotoye coming close to scoring an equaliser after a well worked move found him baring down on goal, but Luke McGee was equal to his shot.

Carlisle substitute Lewis Alessandra turned wide a brilliant chance from an Omari Patrick cross in the 71st minute as the Cumbrians looked to pull a goal back, their best chance of the game.

The win sees Edwards’ men maintain the gap over Tranmere Rovers before facing the second-place side next week in a big top of the table clash.
